Standing before Umauma Falls, you feel the cool mist before you see the water. Three distinct tiers of white cascade tumble through dense tropical greenery along the Umauma River near Hakalau, Hawaii, creating a scene that feels genuinely remote despite being accessible from the highway. Umauma Falls rewards those who pause long enough to watch the layers of falling water merge into the pool below.
Most visitors rave about the zipline tours here, praising the long, fast lines with incredible views over lush Hawaiian scenery. The guides consistently get shout-outs by name – people love how friendly and knowledgeable the staff are, whether you're ziplining, doing the ATV tour, or swimming at waterfalls. Families especially appreciate that younger kids can participate, and the combination tours like "Zip and Dip" seem to be huge hits. The property itself is beautiful, with Cleo's Peace Garden and multiple waterfall access points that make for memorable experiences beyond just the adrenaline rush. The main operational hiccup mentioned is that larger group sizes can mean waiting between ziplines, which slows down the pace. A couple reviewers noted the experience felt less personal than in years past, with guides focused on safety instructions but not much beyond that. There's one serious safety incident detailed in the reviews involving staff inattention that resulted in injury, though this appears to be an isolated event rather than a pattern. Overall, the property delivers on adventure and scenery, especially if you catch them on a day with smaller groups and engaged guides.
Our family had an amazing adventure soaring on their ziplines. The guides are exceptionally trained, courteous, and fun! One guide carried music and it made the beautiful scenery more memorable! Our only wish is that they had an automatic photo location to capture us flying over the waterfalls! We would have paid any price for these photos! We highly recommend this company.
