Things to do nearMala Boat Ramp

Mala Boat Ramp sits just north of Lahaina town on Maui's leeward coast, a stretch of shoreline long favored by local divers for its easy access and rich marine habitat. The site takes its character partly from a pier that was heavily damaged by a hurricane decades ago, leaving behind a submerged structure that has since become an artificial reef.

That sunken pier is the heart of the dive experience. Encrusted with coral and sponges, it shelters moray eels, lionfish, and dense clouds of reef fish. Green sea turtles are a near-constant presence, often resting on the rubble or gliding through the shallows in plain view of snorkelers.

Entry is straightforward from the boat ramp itself, making it one of the more accessible shore dives on the island. Depths range from shallow enough for confident snorkelers to around 30 feet for divers wanting to explore the deeper reef edges. Visibility on calm days is excellent.
