Muskegon State Park spans more than 1,200 acres along one of Michigan's most scenic stretches of the Lake Michigan shoreline. Established in the early twentieth century, the park preserves a rare dune ecosystem where massive sand formations rise above the water and shelter a mix of woodland and wetland habitats behind them.

Hikers can choose from several well-marked trails ranging from easy lakeside walks to more demanding climbs over the dunes. The Dune Ridge Trail offers some of the most dramatic views in the region. In winter, the park transforms into a hub for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and the nationally recognized luge track at the Muskegon Winter Sports Complex. The nearby waters of Muskegon Lake are popular for fishing and paddling in warmer months.

The park's two campgrounds sit within earshot of the waves, making an overnight stay feel genuinely removed from everyday life. After a day on the trails, the city of Muskegon is only a short drive away, offering restaurants and local breweries to round out the evening.
