We decided to rent a canoe from SRO on a beautiful Fall Wednesday. Seemingly a lot of Luray is shut down on Wednesdays but the team at SRO was there and happy to accommodate us. They helped us decide which length trip was right for us, loaded us into a van and dropped us off on the river. They said it would take about 2 hours and it did. They gave good paddling instructions and we were able to navigate the water with a few exciting little rapids and gorgeous scenery. The river itself is crystal clear and it was fun to spot fish, muskrats, turtles and a blue heron along the way. We arrived at the takeout spot, pulled the canoe up, and just in time Nathan came to pick us up. He shared some history with us on the drive back, and all in all it was just what we wanted it to be. We had our 2 small dogs with us and they enjoyed the trip too! Highly recommend, even as the season wraps up. I'm sure in the summer a float with tubes and swimming would be fun too.
