Culebrita is a small uninhabited island and nature reserve administered as part of the municipality of Culebra, Puerto Rico. Its history is anchored by the Culebrita Lighthouse, built in 1886 under Spanish colonial rule, making it one of the oldest lighthouses in the Caribbean. The structure fell out of active use decades ago and now stands in picturesque ruin at the island's highest point, accessible via a steep, forested trail that rewards hikers with panoramic views across the Spanish Virgin Islands.

The reef system surrounding Culebrita supports an abundance of marine life, making snorkeling a centerpiece of any visit. Sea turtles, parrotfish, and elkhorn coral are common sights in the shallows off Tortuga Beach. The tidal pools on the eastern shore, carved into ancient volcanic rock, are a quieter wonder, filling with warm seawater that makes them natural jacuzzis at high tide.

Most visitors arrive via boat tours departing from Dewey, Culebra's main town, with the crossing taking roughly fifteen minutes. Nearby, Flamenco Beach on Culebra proper offers a contrasting experience with its broader shoreline and modest amenities. Culebrita itself remains deliberately undeveloped, and that restraint is precisely what makes it worth the trip.
