The Redondo Beach Pier is a natural starting point for the ride. You can explore the pier, boardwalk, and King Harbor before or after your rental, and the shop's location at the top of the pier parking structure means you are on the bike path within minutes of check-in.

Things to know

This is a self-guided e-bike rental, not a guided tour. All riders must be at least 4'10" tall. Riders under 18 require a parent or guardian signature on the waiver. Two frame sizes are available: 24" wheels for riders 4'10" to 5'4", and 26" wheels for riders 5'4" and taller. Both are step-through cruiser frames. The e-bikes have a motor-assisted maximum speed of 19 mph. The Marvin Braude Coastal Bike Trail has a speed limit of 8 mph, and there are areas during busy times where bikes must be walked when lights are flashing. The battery provides up to 50 miles of range on pedal assist level 2. All riders must complete and sign an online waiver and rental agreement before riding.

Itinerary

This is a self-guided e-bike rental, not a fixed-route tour. The four hours are yours to use however you like. Below is a suggested route that many riders follow from the Redondo Beach Pier northward along the coast.

Check in at the Beach E Biking shop on the top level of the Redondo Beach Pier parking structure (Building 129, at the top of the main brick staircase where Torrance Blvd meets the Redondo Landing). Your host fits you to a bike, walks you through the pedal assist levels, brakes, and battery, and offers route suggestions based on how far you want to ride and what you want to see. Once you are comfortable, walk the bike down the ramp and you are directly on the beach bike path.

Redondo Beach Pier and King Harbor

Before heading north, you can ride a quick loop around King Harbor at the base of the Redondo Beach Pier. The harbor is home to sea lions on the docks, waterfront restaurants on the International Boardwalk, and views of the marina's 1,400 boat slips. The pier itself, originally built in 1889 and reconstructed in the 1990s, is one of the few wooden-deck piers on the California coast and a good first stop for photos.

North Along the Marvin Braude Coastal Bike Trail

Heading north from the Redondo Beach Pier, the paved bike path runs along the sand through Hermosa Beach (approximately 2 miles), past the Hermosa Beach Pier and the restaurants and bars along Pier Avenue, and on to Manhattan Beach (approximately 4 miles from Redondo). The Manhattan Beach Pier, with the Roundhouse Marine Studies Lab and Aquarium at its end, is a popular stop. The path continues north along Dockweiler State Beach, past the LAX flight path (planes pass low overhead), and into Marina del Rey before reaching Venice Beach and ultimately the Santa Monica Pier, roughly 16 miles north of the Redondo Beach Pier. Most riders on a four-hour rental reach Manhattan Beach or Venice Beach comfortably and return with battery to spare.

Stops Along the Way

The beauty of a self-guided ride is that you set the pace. Riders commonly stop for coffee or lunch in Hermosa Beach, walk the Manhattan Beach Pier, lock the bike and spend time on the sand at any of the beaches along the route, browse the Venice Beach Boardwalk, or ride all the way to the Santa Monica Pier for photos before turning around. The lock and basket let you leave the bike secured while you explore on foot.

Return to the Redondo Beach Pier

Ride back south along the same bike path to the shop at the Redondo Beach Pier. The pedal assist makes the return leg easy regardless of wind or fatigue. Return the bike to the shop by the end of your four-hour window.
